FOREVER TRUE by John W. Davies

How do i say the words that explain the way i feel?
Even if i were to try it would only seem unreal
And not from my heart or my soul.
My eyes burn as my tears fall unnoticed to the floor
You lied to me but i’d lied to you and not too long before,
The pain it caused our souls to tear asunder.

We each sought to spare the other pain, yet neither was spared.
It took from us the best of us and left our souls unbared
Until only the anger remained,
We had held it in check, but it now burst free from us
Causing pain and harm to those who sought to protect us
From ourselves, they failed, as did we.

Others tried to use this rift to get their heart's desire,
Pouring evermore fuel onto our hate, a raging fire.
That should and would have destroyed us
But in the end our friendship and our love helped us to see
How we really felt, it set our spirits free
We both have suffered so much.

Only by a total cleansing of our souls could we begin
The healing that would make us whole again.
So please forgive me as i forgive you
For i am and always shall be your friend forever true
